The following documents support the use of the Test materials:

* GEPT Local Administrator's Guide
* GEPT Candidate's Guide
* GEPT Invigilator's Guide
* GEPT Assessor's Guide

The GEPT will assess a candidate's English language ability on a ten point descriptive scale called the Global English Proficiency Scale (GEPS). The competencies and language elements described at each level and in each subskill will indicate, but not be limited by, the content of the National Korean English Curriculum.

Each level of the test assesses English language skills and knowledge across a different range of GEPS levels:

Level A: Levels 0-3
Level B: Levels 0-6
Level C: Levels 0-9

It will not be possible, therefore, for a candidate to receive a grade higher than Level 6 in a version of Level B, as the test will not assess language knowledge and behaviors described in GEPS levels 7-9.

The GEPT will be validated in a number of ways including reviews by linguistic and test experts at universities in Australia and Korea.

The test is based on sound theoretical linguistic principles and widely accepted descriptive models of language and language competence.

Items and texts submitted by item writers, will be reviewed by the editorial team to ensure that they meet the requirements of the Test Specifications and all test items will be scrutinized by experts at participating universities.

Finally, specific test items will be trialled in Korea with typical Korean students to assist in monitoring the reliability and validity of different items in relation to the GEP Scales and specifications. This process will be ongoing to ensure reliability across different versions of the test.

The rigorous selection and training of GEPT item writers, interviewers, and assessors will ensure that the test specifications, instructions, and scales are always applied in a reliable form.

The standardization of the test format and procedures will also ensure a reliable measure of language proficiency.
